Operational Details:
Purpose: To remove and treat enlarged, twisted veins called varicose veins.
Length: 1-2 hours

Side Effects: Stiffness and soreness in the legs treatable with painkillers;

Recovery: Back to work (office) – 1-2 weeks; avoid any physical exertions

Short (half hour) walks 3 times a day – for the first 2 weeks
Wear compression stockings for as long as the doctor advises
Preparation:
Do not eat or drink for 6 hours before general anesthesia. Stop smoking prior to
surgery. Simple tests will be conducted for the heart, blood, and urine. You may
be given an injection of a blood thinning drug called heparin before surgery to
help prevent blood clots forming in the veins of your legs (deep vein
thrombosis, DVT).
